Aiken Standard Historic Newspaper Archive Now Available Online
Cedar Rapids, Iowa (PRWEB) February 20, 2008-- The Aiken Standard daily newspaper, part of the Evening Post Community Publications Group, Inc., has partnered with Cedar Rapids- based Heritage Microfilm to digitize and make available the entire Aiken Standard microfilm archive. This partnership gives libraries, historical societies, educational institutions and individuals online access to more than 375,000 pages of historic newspaper content that was never available before.
"Aiken has a rich and historic past and all of that history has been captured over the years by the Aiken Standard. Until now accessing that treasure trove of material has been a chore even for the staff of the newspaper, but now technology gives us a fantastic opportunity to open a portal into our community's past. I know our readers are going to love having such easy access to our historical archives and, if my experience with testing the site is any indication, they'll also have a lot of fun wandering back through the years and finding quirky and interesting stories from the past," voiced Tim O'Briant, News Director for the Aiken Standard.
The fully-searchable online digital archive, features Aiken Standard issues from 1871 to 2007, and will be continually updated.
"We are proud to be able to distribute this historic newspaper," said Jeff Kiley, General Manager of Heritage Microfilm. "South Carolina history--from post-Civil War Reconstruction to the 1931 death of Speaker Nicholas Longworth to the most current events--has been reported in detail by the Aiken Standard."
Individuals can access the new Aiken Standard online newspaper archive by visiting http://aikenstandard.newspaperarchive.com.
Content from the Aiken Standard is also featured on NewspaperARCHIVE.com, located at http://www.newspaperarchive.com, the world's largest online historical newspaper database. With tens of millions of newspaper pages, dating as far back as 1759, the archive is a valuable primary resource.
Libraries, historical societies and educational institutions interested in digital access to Aiken Standard historic content should contact Cera Hartig, Account Manager with Heritage Microfilm, at 888-870-0484 ext. 34.
